One of the most common questions we hear before a carpet repair is:
“Will I be able to see the repair afterward?”
That was exactly the concern with this recent pet-damage repair in Calgary.
The homeowner contacted CarpetFix after her dog damaged the carpet near a gated area. Several carpet fibres had been pulled out, leaving a very noticeable damaged section.
Before going ahead with the repair, she wanted to know what many homeowners want to know: Will the repaired area still be visible?
Can a Damaged Carpet Be Repaired Without Replacing It?
In many cases, yes.
Pet damage like pulled fibres, chewed carpet, damaged corners and small localized areas can often be professionally repaired without replacing the carpet in the entire room.
The important part is assessing the damage first and choosing the repair method that gives the best possible result.
For this job, we repaired the damaged section and restored the carpet as closely as possible to the surrounding area.
The homeowner was very happy with the finished result.
Will a Carpet Patch Be Completely Invisible?
We prefer to be realistic about this.
A professional carpet repair can sometimes blend extremely well, but no responsible carpet repair technician should guarantee that every patch will be 100% invisible.
Several things affect how noticeable a repair may be, including the carpet’s age, colour, wear, pile direction, available donor carpet and the location of the damage.
Our goal at CarpetFix is simple: make the repair as clean and unobtrusive as reasonably possible while preserving the existing carpet.
In this case, the homeowner’s concern about visibility was addressed by the finished repair, and she was happy with the outcome.
Do I Need Spare Carpet for a Pet-Damage Repair?
Not necessarily.
Having matching leftover carpet is ideal, but when none is available, we may sometimes be able to use a suitable donor piece from an inconspicuous location such as a closet.
Whether that is possible depends on the carpet and the particular repair.
If you’re unsure, send us a few clear photos of the damage. We can usually give you a good idea of the repair options before scheduling the job.
Repair the Damage Instead of Replacing the Carpet
A small damaged area doesn’t necessarily mean an entire room of carpet needs to be replaced.
Professional carpet repair can be a much more practical option for localized pet damage, pulled carpet fibres, damaged transitions, doorway damage and other isolated problems.
That’s the approach behind our motto:
Don’t replace it, if we can fix it.
