Cat-Damaged Carpet Stair Repair in Chestermere, Alberta

Thorne carpet

A homeowner in Chestermere, Alberta contacted CarpetFix about some serious pet damage to their carpeted stairs.

The family has two dogs, but surprisingly, the dogs weren’t responsible for this one — the cat was!

Several areas along the stair nosing had been badly scratched and torn apart. Carpet fibres were pulled out, sections of the backing were damaged, and parts of the stair underneath were completely exposed.

Replacing the entire staircase carpet would have been an expensive solution. Fortunately, it wasn’t necessary.

Can Cat-Damaged Carpet on Stairs Be Repaired?

In many cases, yes.

Cat scratching can cause significant damage because the claws repeatedly pull at the carpet fibres and backing. Stair nosings are particularly vulnerable because they provide an easy edge for a cat to grab.

The important question is whether enough usable carpet remains and whether suitable replacement material is available.

For this Chestermere home, we were able to repair the damaged stairs rather than replace all of the carpet.

The Carpet Stair Repair Process

This wasn’t simply a matter of trimming away a few loose fibres. The damaged sections had to be opened up so we could properly assess what was underneath.

The repair involved carefully removing the damaged carpet from the affected stair areas, exposing the underlay and stair structure, preparing the damaged sections, and rebuilding the carpeted stair surfaces properly.

The photos below show why professional carpet repair sometimes looks much worse before it gets better.

Why We Opened Up the Carpet

Once carpet damage reaches this level, simply covering the damaged area isn’t a proper repair.

Opening the carpet allowed us to inspect and prepare the stair underneath, remove damaged material and create a solid foundation for the repaired carpet.

That preparation is an important part of producing a repair that isn’t just cosmetic.

The Finished Carpet Repair

Once everything underneath was properly prepared, the carpet was fitted back into place and the damaged stair areas were reconstructed.

The result was a clean, secure staircase without replacing all of the existing carpet.

That’s exactly the type of repair we like to accomplish:

Don’t replace it, if we can fix it.

Pet Damage Carpet Repair in Chestermere

Dogs often get blamed for carpet damage, but cats can cause just as much damage — particularly around stairs, transitions, doorways and carpet edges.

CarpetFix provides professional carpet repair in Chestermere for problems including pet damage, torn carpet, damaged stairs, loose carpet, open seams and other localized carpet damage.

If your carpet has been damaged, replacement isn’t necessarily your only option.

Can you repair carpet damaged by a cat?

Often, yes. The repair method depends on where the damage is located, how much carpet and backing have been destroyed, and whether suitable donor carpet is available.

Do I have to replace all of my stair carpet?

Not necessarily. Localized stair damage can sometimes be repaired while keeping most of the original carpet.

Will a carpet repair be completely invisible?

We always aim for the best possible blend, but a repair cannot be guaranteed to be completely invisible. Carpet age, wear, colour variation, pile direction and the donor carpet can all affect the final appearance.

Do you provide carpet repair in Chestermere?

Yes. CarpetFix provides professional carpet repair services in Chestermere and the Calgary area, including pet-damaged carpet and carpet stair repairs.
