🐾 Pet Damage Carpet Repair – Repeat Client, New Home, Same Problem

Pet damage can happen even in the most careful homes — and sometimes, it happens more than once.

This repair started with an email from a previous CarpetFix client. Different house, same dog, same type of issue. Unfortunately, the dog had been sick and was on medication. To help administer it, the owners mixed the medication with butter — which turned out to be too much for her stomach.

She threw up on the carpet and instinctively nibbled and chewed the area to clean it, causing visible damage to the fibres.

(Before: chewed and damaged carpet fibres • After: repaired area blended using available donor material)

The Situation: Same Dog, Different Home

When I arrived, the damage was localized but obvious:

  • Chewed and disturbed carpet fibres
  • Visible texture and colour disruption
  • Damage limited to one area, not spread throughout the room

The good news was that the homeowners had a placemat made from the same carpet, which could be used as a donor piece. The challenge was that it wasn’t a perfect match.

The Challenge: Donor Piece Slightly Off

Using donor carpet is always the key to a good repair — but sometimes the donor isn’t an exact match.

In this case:

  • The donor piece was very close, but slightly off in tone
  • The repair could be made about 98% perfect
  • Proper placement and pile alignment would determine how noticeable it was

With careful planning, the donor piece was positioned to minimize contrast and blend naturally with the surrounding carpet.

🔧 How CarpetFix Repairs Pet Damage

1️⃣ Proper Assessment & Preparation

Furniture was moved as needed, and the damaged area was carefully evaluated to determine the cleanest possible cut.

2️⃣ Precision Cutting

The damaged section was removed using professional cutting techniques to ensure:

  • Clean, even edges
  • No fraying
  • A tight fit for the donor piece

3️⃣ Carpet Patching & Re-Securing

The donor carpet was trimmed and installed, then secured seamlessly into the existing carpet so the repair became part of the floor — not a visible patch.

4️⃣ Fibre Grooming & Seam Check

The fibres were groomed and aligned, and seams were checked and refined. This final step is what makes the repair feel smooth underfoot and look natural.

The result: a flat, tight carpet that looks cleaner, feels firmer, and removes the damaged visual area.

🐕 Why Pet Damage Happens (Dogs & Cats)

Pet damage isn’t always behavioural — sometimes it’s situational.

Common causes include:

  • Illness or stomach issues
  • Medication reactions
  • Anxiety or stress
  • Instinctive cleaning behaviour
  • Scratching, chewing, or nibbling

Even well-trained pets can cause sudden carpet damage under the right conditions.

Pet Damage FAQ

Q – Will the patch be visible?
A – It depends on the donor piece and the carpet itself. In this case, the match was very close — about 98% blended.

Q – Do you need to empty the room?
A – Not completely. We just need enough space to work safely and properly.

Q – How long does a repair take?
A – Most pet damage repairs take 1–2 hours.

Q – Do you provide carpet?
A – No — but we can often use a closet piece, remnant, or existing donor item, like in this repair.
